Introduction to Local Class Field Theory
(Fall 2003)

Prerequisites: MATH 631 or equivalent. Some knowledge of algebraic number theory desirable.

Topics to be covered: Roughly half of what is in Serre's Corps Locaux, with purely algebraic topics like cohomology of groups discussed only to the extent necessary for their applications to number theory.

Global class field theory may be touched lightly, as well as topics like explicit reciprocity laws, depending on the background and interests of the audience.
