Seminar in Geometry
(Fall 2003)

Instructor: Alex Meadows

Meeting Time & Room

This course will cover Geometric Measure Theory, with an emphasis on geometric variational problems, including minimal surfaces (soap films). Prerequisites would be measure theory and some analysis at the level of Rudin's "Real and Complex Analysis." Some background in the geometry of manifolds might be helpful. The topics will include rectifiable sets, currents, varifolds, area-minimizing surfaces, and possibly flat chains. We may also discuss some advanced topics like problems of singularities and mean curvature flow.
