MATH 752: Berstein Seminar in Topology (Spring 2007)
Instructor: Karen Vogtmann
The seminar will concentrate on topics of current interest in geometric group theory. The choice of topics is ultimately up to the students who will study and present them, but I suggest that topics be concentrated in the area of trees, action on trees and spaces of actions on trees, including classical Bass-Serre theory, R-trees and surface groups, Lambda trees and limit groups, Serre's property FA, and spaces of actions on trees, i.e. Outer space and general deformation spaces, Teichmüller spaces, and graph homology spaces.
