MATH 7130 - Functional Analysis Fall 2013
Instructor: Camil Muscalu
Given that many of the most basic theorems of functional aAnalysis (Hahn-Banach theorem, Banach-Steinhaus uniformity principle, open mapping theorem, closed graph theorem) are usually covered in our graduate real analysis course, this class could be equally titled “Introduction to further topics in analysis.” It will contain material which is not usually described during the real, complex or Fourier analysis courses, nor during a standard PDE class.
There are clearly many ways to go, and I have not made up my mind yet about the precise content of the course. But the books by Conway, Lax, Reed & Simon and Stein on “Functional Analysis” might provide a rough idea of some of the topics that could be covered.
