Math 753 — Algebraic Topology II

Fall 2002

Instructor: Allen Hatcher

Time: MWF 10:10-11:00

Room: Malott 205

This is the sequel to the introductory algebraic topology course, MATH 651. The main topics will be cohomology theory (including Poincaré Duality) and the beginnings of homotopy theory. The latter includes such things as fiber bundles and fibrations, the Freudenthal suspension theorem, stable homotopy groups, spectra, and spectral sequences. This material is mostly from Chapters 3 and 4 of my book. In order to cover as much ground as possible, some proofs will not be given in detail in the lectures, in cases when they can be read in the textbook.
