MATH 651: Algebraic Topology (Spring 2007)

Instructor: Robert Connelly

Meeting Time & Room

This is the basic introductory course in algebraic topology flavored with some applications to geometry. This will cover the first two chapters in Hatcher's book Algebraic Topology, including the fundamental group, covering spaces, homology groups, the Brouwer fixed point theorem, the Borsuk-Ulam Theorem about antipodal points, and the hairy ball theorem about vector fields on spheres.
