Algebraic Topology
Instructor: | Reyer Sjamaar |
Time: | TR 8:40-9:55 |
Room: | MT 205 |
This is the basic introductory course in algebraic topology. The main topics are fundamental group, covering spaces, and homology. You can get a more precise idea by looking at the textbook "Algebraic Topology I" available online at www.math.cornell.edu/~hatcher. The course will cover most of Chapters 0, 1 and 2, omitting some of the optional topics. If time and the preferences of the audience permit, we may also have a brief look at some of these optional topics.
Prerequisites: basic point set topology and abstract algebra (mainly group theory), as in standard undergraduate courses in these topics.
