MATH 6110: Real Analysis (Fall 2012)
Instructor: Bob Strichartz
Texts:Real Analysis by Stein and Shakarchi, and lecture notes by Strichartz.
Format: Most of the lecturing will be done by students.
This is the core graduate course in real analysis, covering measure and Lebesgue integration theory, and an introduction to functional analysis (Hilbert space, Banach spaces, Hahn-Banach Theorem, Riesz Representation Theorem). This is the great foundation laid in the early decades of the twentieth century that supports all subsequent developments in mathematical analysis.
