Math 739 — Spring 2001 Topics in Algebra: Kac-Moody Lie Algebras

This will be a course in Kac-Moody Lie algebras. I will follow the book "Infinite dimensional Lie Algebras" by Victor Kac. Students will be assumed to be familiar with the basic theory of finite dimensional Lie algebras, as taught in Math 649. But if there are students without this prerequisite who wish to take the course, I will try to provide a brief summary of the background material.

Students who take the course for credit will be asked to learn about some topic related to the course and give a one-hour survey lecture on it.
