MATH 7610: Seminar in Geometry: Equivariant symplectic geometry (Fall 2010)
Instructor: Tara Holm
The main topic of this course is Lie group actions in symplectic geometry. The course will begin with a quick review of basic objects and techniques in symplectic geometry. We will then focus on Hamiltonian actions of compact Lie groups, and the geometry and topology of momentum maps. Topics will depend in part on the preferences of the participants. Applications may include using polytopes and graphs to read "classical" geometric and topological information (volumes; cohomology; symplectic packings) and "quantum" information (dimension/multiplicities of group representations).
