MATH 7350: Algebraic Methods in Combinatorics (fall 2008)
Instructor: Eran Nevo
Algebraic tools proved to be very successful in solving various problems in combinatorics.
We will apply linear algebra, exterior algebra, and commutative algebra tools to problems in extremal set theory, convexity, discrete geometry, and f-vector theory. The main purpose here is to present a wide scope of applications. Time permitting, in the last part of the course we will focus on face rings and algebraic shifting, with their applications to f-vector theory. Throughout, open problems will be discussed as well.
